Hundreds of prayers for the King on his coronation have been written by primary school children from across North Yorkshire and are now on display in Ripon Cathedral’s north aisle.

The cathedral wrote to every primary school in the county asking for prayers to be submitted and the response was overwhelming. More than 150 of the prayers are now mounted in a special exhibition; the hundreds of other prayers are displayed in ring binders nearby.  Three of the prayers are being used in the Commemorative Service for North Yorkshire to mark the Coronation of His Majesty The King on Sunday 7th May at 3.30pm, to which all are welcome.

The Dean of Ripon, the Very Revd John Dobson DL, said, “At the heart of the Coronation Service is a solemn act of Christian worship.  The primary school children of North Yorkshire have shown they recognise the need for the King to be surrounded by prayer as he is anointed and crowned as our monarch.  We pray that God grant His Majesty strength and wisdom and that he be aware of our gratitude for the way he serves his people.  That is the essence of these wonderful prayers which we are pleased to display.”

The exhibition will remain in the cathedral until Friday 12th May.
