A new ministry within the Diocese of Leeds was recognised at Ripon Cathedral on Sunday with the commissioning of a group of people as Diocesan Eco-mission Enablers.

The Rt Rev Anna Eltringham, The Bishop of Ripon, preached and commissioned 13 people who had all completed a diocesan course and represent a diverse range of parishes.

They’re now tasked with leading environmental mission across the communities they serve, through their churches.

Canon Matthew Pollard, the cathedral’s Canon Chancellor, said, “It was good to acknowledge publicly such an important part of the Church’s mission. Safeguarding Creation is an integral part of what our faith is about. That is why the cathedral is hosting an exhibition showcasing how churches across the diocese are engaging on the journey towards net zero. Entry to the cathedral is free and the exhibition can be seen throughout September. We hope it will inspire all who visit. Any parish, small or large, can do its bit.”
