Bridging Generations – a Service to mark Holocaust Memorial Day – took place today with school children, civic dignitaries – including the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire Mrs Jo Ropner, representing His Majesty The King – and members of the Harrogate Hebrew Congregation.
Psalms were sung in both Hebrew and English with a blessing by Rabbi Perez and Bishop Anna, the Bishop of Ripon. The service was led by Dean John.
The day marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau on January 27 1945. As we remember victims of the Holocaust and subsequent victims of genocides in Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda and Darfur – we pray for peace with justice for all.
