Come and Sing Maunder's Olivet to Calvary - Ripon Cathedral

Come and Sing Maunder’s Olivet to Calvary

Ripon Cathedral Choir’s traditional devotional performance of Maunder’s wonderful Passiontide cantata Olivet to Calvary on Palm Sunday is a great opportunity for local singers to join the Cathedral Choir in song, under the direction of the Cathedral’s Director of Music Dr Ronny Krippner.

Olivet to Calvary, composed in 1904, is often regarded as the sister work of Stainer’s Crucifixion. The piece is Maunder’s offering on the subject of the last few days of the Saviour’s life on earth is a fine example of Victorian church music.

The rehearsal on the day starts at 3.30pm and finishes at 4.45pm, after which there will be refreshments served in the South Transept of the Cathedral. The Devotional Performance of the cantata begins at 5.30pm, finishing at approximately 6.45pm.

Please email the music department and let us know your voice part if you are interested in participating. We are asking for a £5 donation which will go towards the choir’s tour to Westminster Abbey this summer. Under 18s will need parental consent. Please book a place by Friday 4 April (noon).

Please note: singers must bring their own copy of the music (Novello edition, NOV 072487).
