Evensong with Installation of Canons
Following the appointment of one of our Honorary Canons, Cat Thatcher as Archdeacon of Pontefract, we gather to install her in the accustomed seat of the Archdeacon in the historic quire stalls.
The installation of an Honorary Canon is an important cathedral event. On this occasion Canon Cat will be added to the Cathedral Foundation and this service marks her ‘internal transfer’ from one stall to another.
The evensong will include the full choral foundation. The cathedral choir’s history can be traced back to the time of St Wilfrid, who first introduced singers from Canterbury to Ripon. This tradition continues today with a strong back-row of adult voices and two thriving choirs of girls and boys.
