Festal Eucharist and Procession for Candlemas

The Famous Annual Candlemas service.

The Preacher will be Canon John Patrick, formerly Sub Dean of Lincoln Cathedral.

A Festal Eucharist as we celebrate the Feast of Candlemas when the infant Christ was presented at the temple and was recognised by the old man Simeon as ‘a light for revelation to the Gentiles’. In his gospel, Luke tells us that it had been revealed to Simeon by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah.

The cathedral will be lit by thousands of candles as we celebrate the light of Christ conquering the world’s darkness. The cathedral choir will lead the worship and during the service the congregation will be invited to process around the church with their own candles.
