Pilgrim Cello 2025 – Music, Poetry & Spirit
Performed by Kenneth Wilson
Join us for an extraordinary 50-minute journey as cellist Kenneth Wilson shares his moving performance of “Meditation on the Seven Last Words of Christ” — a profound musical and poetic experience that bridges faith, art, and human reflection.
Kenneth Wilson isn’t just performing—he’s embarking on an extraordinary 2,000-mile pilgrimage by bicycle with his cello, visiting all 42 English Anglican cathedrals. Ripon marks one special stop on this remarkable spiritual and artistic journey.
The 50-minute performance weaves together:
- The timeless solo cello music of Bach
- Kenneth’s original reflective poetry
- Seven iconic paintings by abstract artist Gillian Lever
This isn’t Kenneth’s first “mad project” — three years ago, he cycled with his cello from Hadrian’s Wall to Rome, performing along the way. His book “Highway Cello” chronicling that journey was described as “an absolute charmer of a travel book.”
Entry is free with donations gratefully received.
Whether you’re drawn to beautiful music, thoughtful poetry, or the idea of spiritual pilgrimage, this unique event offers something meaningful for everyone. As Kenneth says, “Even if you’ve never been in a cathedral before, I hope the Meditation – as well as the journey – will speak to you!”
