The Journey marks 25 years of Tenebrae with music that has defined the choir, alongside new works written for this anniversary season. From the Cherubic Hymns of the Russian tradition and Bruckner’s radiant motets to premieres by Jason Max Ferdinand and Sarah Henderson, winner of Tenebrae’s composition competition, the concert culminates in Poulenc’s Figure humaine, one of the most demanding and remarkable of all choral works. Written during the occupation of France, it travels from private fear to a final, hard-won hymn to freedom that is one of the most powerful moments in 20th century music.

‘Unaccompanied choral singing comes no better than this: in blend, accuracy, precision, commitment’ The Guardian

‘For purity and precision of tone, and flawless intonation, Nigel Short’s chamber choir Tenebrae is pretty much unbeatable’ The Times
